About The Hidden Gem

The Hidden Gem is more than a rock and mineral shop. It is the meeting point of ancestry, land, and lived experience — shaped by islands, oceans, stone, and the belief that the earth should be respected long before it is handled.

The Story Beneath the Surface

Shane’s story begins in an unexpected place. He was born in Landstuhl, Germany, a crossroads shaped by movement, history, and generations passing through. From there, life carried him across oceans to Hawaiʻi, where land is not owned — it is honored.

In Hawaiʻi, the principle of Mālama ʻĀina — to care for and protect the land — was not a concept, but a way of life. You take only what is needed. You give back. You leave no scar without purpose. That respect for earth became permanent.

Threaded through that upbringing is ancestral blood reaching far north — Viking lineage traced back to Hrafna-Flóki, the navigator who followed ravens across open sea to become the first Norseman to intentionally sail to Iceland. A lineage defined by navigation, stone, survival, and reading the land as instinct rather than resource.

That northern inheritance meets indigenous roots as well — Native American ancestry grounded in relationship to land, patience, and stewardship. Cultures that understood the earth as living memory.

Sophie’s heritage adds another powerful layer: Persian and Armenian lineage shaped by ancient stonework, craftsmanship, trade routes, and generational knowledge. Civilizations where objects are never just objects — they are history carried forward.

Together, these histories form the backbone of The Hidden Gem. A place where material is treated with reverence, not novelty. Where stones are not forced into trends, but allowed to speak for themselves.

“Some people see rocks. We see time, ancestry, and responsibility.”

Why The Hidden Gem Exists

We built The Hidden Gem to feel different on purpose. Not loud. Not mass-produced. Not disconnected from origin.

This is a Loomis, California shop shaped by island values, northern navigation, indigenous respect, and old-world craftsmanship.

Every piece we carry, clean, cut, or help identify passes through that lens: respect the material, understand its origin, and don’t force it into something it isn’t.

A Place With Roots

Located in Loomis, CA, The Hidden Gem serves Placer County and the greater Sacramento area — Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, Auburn, Granite Bay, and beyond. We welcome collectors, families, and curious minds looking for something real.

If you walk in, you’re not just shopping. You’re stepping into a story that started long before us — and will continue long after.
