Bring Your Own Material

Yes, that rock you found counts.

Field finds, geodes, thunder eggs and many common lapidary materials can be evaluated. Dense, stable material usually gives the best chance of a clean cut or finish.

Can you cut rocks I found myself?

Yes. Field finds, geodes, thunder eggs, minerals and other suitable stones can be evaluated for cutting. Final approval depends on condition and stability.

Does cutting include polishing?

No. Cutting and polishing are separate services. Rock-cutting appointments include the bench minimum and one standard cut.

What is the difference between Flat-Face Polish and Collector’s Finish?

A Flat-Face Polish works one face. Collector’s Finish is a substantially more involved premium service that works the specimen more extensively.

Can you make a cabochon from my rock?

Yes, when the material is suitable. Calibrated cabochons start at $150 and freeform cabochons start at $200.

Do I need an appointment?

Booking through Setmore is recommended so the correct amount of bench time is reserved for your project.

Natural stone risk: rocks may contain hidden fractures, voids, unstable matrix, inclusions or internal stress. Cutting, polishing, drilling or shaping can reveal flaws or cause chipping or fracture. Each project is evaluated individually, but a specific natural-stone outcome cannot be guaranteed.
